Godalming Museum opens to the public again on Tuesday 1st February

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, Godalming Museum is telling the story of Var Ashe Houston BEM in the museum window. Var Ashe Houston, who was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to Holocaust Remembrance in this year’s New Year Honours, escaped from the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia in the 1970s.

About the Event
The window display will feature the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust video ‘Var’s Journey’, a beautiful statue of a traditional Khmer dancer which Var Ashe Houston donated to the museum and a copy of her book ‘From Phnom Penh to Paradise’ which is in the museum’s local studies library.
Holocaust Memorial Day is the 27thJanuary, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945. The window display will run for two weeks.
Godalming Museum opens to the public again on Tuesday 1st February. Entry is free and the museum will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am to 4 pm (www.godalmingmuseum.org.uk)
