Henry Scott Tuke is recognised today as a master colourist. Working en plein air, he used a dazzling palette to paint his subjects, working not only in oils, but watercolour and pastel too. Tuke was inspired by new artistic techniques from Europe and used his fascination for 'colour tone' to heighten the chromatic effects of light and atmosphere on his subjects.
